This setup assumes that the only changes made to the networking equipment have been done to establish an Internet connection.
Ensure that you have the following before you begin.
• Verify the high-speed access at the DVR location is working.
• Information needed about your service.
•Type of connection. DSL, Cable, SAT and connection information •Make and model of all network equipment.
The following may be needed depending on the installation.
• CAT 5E Patch Cable.
• Computer at DVR location.
• Internet Provider Tech Support phone number.
• Primary and Secondary DNS server numbers from the Internet provider.
• User name / password of the modem and / or router.
Note: There are many types of modems and routers. The following information is offered in general terms. Although different modems perform the same function, their specific setup and the terms used, may differ.
For your specific application we suggest that you reference the operator’s manual for the specific model that you are setting up or contact the modem or router manufacturer.
DVR - Modem Setup
Obtain the Network properties. This information is obtained from the Internet provider or in some cases can be obtained from temporarily connecting a computer to the modem. Obtain Internet access on a computer. The assistance of the Internet provider may be needed. However internet access is obtained on the computer is how the DVR must be configured. Remove the network cable from the computer and move it the DVR.
DVR LAN Setup. Enter the network connection information obtained into the LAN setup of the DVR. Save the settings.
DVR name setup. Setup the DVRNS page.
DVR - Modem/Router

Obtain the Network properties. From a computer that is connected to the modem open a command prompt and type the command IPCONFIG /ALL. Record the IP address, gateway, subnet and DNS server.
Gain access to the router. Open the computers Internet browser and type at the address line "http:// X.X.X.X". Where the X.X.X.X is the gateway address that was obtained. This should bring up the modem setup menu. If a prompt appears requesting a password type in the username and password obtained from the Internet provider.
Determine the IP address for the DVR. Go to the DHCP sever to determine the range of IP addresses that might be in use. If the range is from X.X.X.2 to X.X.X.253 change it to a smaller range. Decide upon an IP address for the DVR that is not in use by any other network device. It should an address outside of the DHCP range. NEVER USE IP's X.X.X.1 OR X.X.X.254. These numbers are typically already in use.
Open the ports. Go to the firewall or advanced settings. Forward the communication ports for the DVR.Note - Refer to the documentation form your Internet provider on port forwarding.DVR LAN Setup. In the LAN setup page of the DVR enter the same IP address that you used in the PORT setup. For the gateway, subnet and DNS server enter the same settings that you obtained earlier. Save your setting.

DVR - Router - Modem

Obtain the Network properties
From a computer that is connected to the modem open a command prompt and type the command IPCONFIG /ALL. Record the IP address, gateway, subnet and DNS server. Gain access to the router. Open the computers Internet browser and type at the address line "http:// X.X.X.X". Where the X.X.X.X is the gateway address that was obtained. This should bring up the modem setup menu. If a prompt appears requesting a password type in the username and password obtained from router manufacturer documentation or their technical support.Determine the modems configuration. Go to the status page of the router and look at the Internet or WAN connection. You should not see a 10.x.x.x, 172.x.x.x or a 192.168.x.x address. If you do then the Internet providers modem needs to be bridged. Contact the Internet provider for assistance with this setup.Determine the IP address for the DVR. Go to the DHCP sever to determine the range of IP addresses that might be in use. If the range is from X.X.X.2 to X.X.X.253 change it to a smaller range.
